Content capture brief · Australia

What should a service business capture in one content session?

The most useful session does not chase a month’s worth of random posts. It captures the people, process, proof and answers needed by the current website, ads and sales conversations, with clear permission and file ownership.

01 / DECISION

Give every planned asset a job before filming.

  1. 01Choose the service, customer question and destination for each asset.
  2. 02Capture real people, environments and process details the business can verify.
  3. 03Record permissions, claims, dates and file ownership beside the original media.
  4. 04Plan several useful edits from one source without making every channel identical.

02 / BRIEF

What belongs in the content brief?

Name the business goal, service, intended customer, customer question, proof source, destination, action and person responsible for approval.
Business Victoria recommends connecting a content marketing plan to defined business goals and audience needs. That sounds simple, but it prevents a shoot from becoming a collection of attractive clips with no commercial use.
I start from the current website, campaign and sales questions. If the landing page needs service-area proof or the Meta test needs an owner explanation, those gaps become the shot list.
  • Goal: what customer decision or business action should the asset support?
  • Audience: who needs the answer and what do they already know?
  • Source: which person, job, process or document supports the claim?
  • Destination: website, Meta ad, Google Business Profile, email or social post.

03 / CAPTURE

Which footage and photos create a useful library?

Capture wide context, medium process and close detail, plus clean owner or team explanations that can stand on their own.
A finished-job photo is useful, but it rarely explains the customer’s decision. Pair it with the condition before work, the method, one quality detail and the person responsible. Capture horizontal and vertical-safe compositions where practical so later edits do not depend on a destructive crop.
Service NSW guidance suggests using what customers need to know to guide business social content. For a service business, those needs often include preparation, timing, safety, service area, cost factors and what good work looks like.
  • People: owner, team roles and who the customer will deal with.
  • Place: real service environment, vehicle, workspace and relevant local context.
  • Process: setup, key steps, checks and handover without exposing private information.
  • Proof: permitted results, credentials, tools and details that support a specific claim.

04 / EXPLAIN

What should the owner or team say on camera?

Answer one real question at a time in the language used with customers. Start with the answer, then give the reason, limitation and next step.
A short owner explanation can become a website answer, ad opening, social clip and sales follow-up. It works best when the speaker is not forced to memorise polished agency copy. I use talking points and ask the question conversationally.
For Meta creative testing, each explanation should have one angle. A clip about cost factors and a clip about emergency response solve different customer problems and should be labelled separately.
  • What is the problem and who is the service for?
  • What happens during the work and what does the customer need to prepare?
  • Which factors change price, timing or suitability?
  • What should the customer do next, and when is the business available?

05 / CONTROL

How should permissions and claims be recorded?

Keep written permission, usage scope, client context and claim support with the source files. If permission or context is uncertain, do not publish the asset.
Customer names, faces, addresses, number plates, documents and conversations can reveal personal or commercially sensitive information. The capture plan should identify these risks before the camera comes out, not during final export.
A before-and-after sequence should show the same job and state what changed. A demonstration should be labelled as a demonstration. A review should preserve the customer’s meaning and the platform or source where it can be checked.
  • Record who granted permission and which channels, dates or campaigns it covers.
  • Keep raw and approved exports separate so an unapproved frame is not reused later.
  • Remove or obscure personal information that is not needed for the story.
  • Do not manufacture urgency, outcomes, customer words or before-and-after conditions.

06 / USE

How should one source become several useful assets?

Adapt the same verified source to the question and format of each channel while keeping the underlying claim and context consistent.
The website may use a longer explanation beside the service process. Meta may test two distinct openings from the same interview. A Google Business Profile update may use one job image and a factual note. The repurposing plan should change the edit, not the truth.
Review assets by the customer action they supported. Reach and watch time can help diagnose distribution, while enquiries, qualified conversations and bookings show whether the content supported the business goal. Unknown outcomes stay unknown.
  • Preserve a searchable asset name with service, source, date and permission status.
  • Write the intended hook, proof and action beside each planned edit.
  • Keep captions readable and essential information inside safe visual areas.
  • Retire outdated prices, staff, vehicles, service areas and claims promptly.

This is a capture-planning demonstration, not a promise of a fixed number of posts or leads. On-site production is available in Melbourne; planning and supplied-asset support are available Australia-wide.

SOURCES

What this guide relies on

Official sources establish the platform or Australian compliance facts. The operating method is my practical interpretation, not a promise of a particular result.

QUESTIONS

Questions worth answering before you start.

Do service businesses need professional video equipment?
Not for every asset. Clear audio, stable framing, useful light and an honest explanation matter more than making every clip look like a television ad. Professional capture is valuable when the asset needs a longer shelf life or the environment is difficult.
Can Ajay create content outside Melbourne?
Planning, scripting, shot lists and editing support can be delivered Australia-wide using supplied assets. Ajay's on-site photography and video capture are available in Melbourne.
What should we film if customers cannot appear?
Capture the owner or team explaining the work, tools, preparation, process demonstrations, finished details and common questions. Do not imply that a demonstration is a customer job when it is not.
How often should a service business run a content session?
Base the schedule on the number of services, campaigns, asset gaps and how quickly the real work changes. Plan a new session when the library can no longer support current offers or important proof is missing. A posting calendar alone is not a useful reason to film.
Can one video be used on the website and in ads?
Often, but the edit and context should match the destination. A website may need a clear process explanation, while a Meta ad may need a shorter opening and one specific offer. Keep the original files and usage permissions organised so the asset can be adapted safely.

YOUR NEXT MOVE

Bring me the campaign, website and questions customers keep asking.

I will turn the missing answers and proof into a practical capture brief. Melbourne businesses can add on-site production; national businesses can use the remote plan with supplied assets.
