What should a service-business landing page include?

A landing page has one job: help the right visitor decide whether this service fits and take the next real action. It should continue the promise that earned the click, not restart the conversation with a generic company introduction.

01 / DECISION

Build the page around the visitor's next decision.

  1. 01Continue the search term, ad or referral promise in the first heading and explanation.
  2. 02Show who the service is for, where it is available and what happens next.
  3. 03Place proof beside the claim it supports and label demonstrations honestly.
  4. 04Track calls, forms, qualification and bookings as separate stages.

02 / MATCH

Should the campaign use a landing page or a service page?

Use the page that best completes the visitor’s current task. A dedicated landing page earns its place when the campaign has a distinct service, offer, audience or measurement need.
Google describes landing-page experience through usefulness, relevance, navigation and whether the page meets expectations set by the ad. That does not mean every campaign needs a stripped page with no links. It means the destination should make the promised information and action easy to find.
If several services share the same buying decision, one strong service page may be enough. The one-page-per-service test helps prevent thin duplicates that merely swap the service name.
  • Use a dedicated page for a genuinely distinct offer or decision path.
  • Use the main service page when broader context and navigation help the customer.
  • Do not clone one template across locations or services without unique value.
  • Keep the page on the same real business domain and maintain consistent facts.

03 / FIRST FOLD

What needs to be clear before the first scroll?

State the service, intended customer or service area, useful outcome and primary action. The visitor should not need to decode a slogan before learning whether the page fits.
On a phone, space is limited. A large heading can still work if it carries the actual promise and leaves the action reachable. Use short supporting copy to qualify the service, then make the phone number or form route visually obvious.
Google’s mobile guidance emphasises speed, simple navigation and easy contact. Those are usability basics, not a guarantee of higher rankings or conversion. The page still needs a credible offer and evidence.
  • One descriptive H1 that continues the campaign language.
  • A short explanation of the service, location and customer fit.
  • A visible primary action with clear button text.
  • A trust cue that can be verified, not a floating badge with no source.

04 / PROVE

Which proof belongs on the page?

Use the strongest proof that directly supports the service claim: a defined result, permitted work example, credential, review or labelled process demonstration.
Proof needs context. A number should state the metric, timeframe, source and limitation. A before-and-after image should identify what changed and have permission. A process diagram should say that it is a demonstration rather than a client outcome.
The site’s 153-lead case study now separates lead, cost and booking definitions and explains the combined attribution. That is more useful than repeating the three figures without the method.
  • Place service-specific proof near the relevant objection or promise.
  • State whether an example is current client evidence, historical evidence or a demo.
  • Avoid unsupported star ratings, client logos or result counters.
  • Protect customer and client information in screenshots and forms.

05 / CONVERT

How should calls and forms work on mobile?

Give each action a clear purpose, ask only for information needed at that stage and make the response expectation visible.
A call button is useful when the team can answer or a call-handling path exists. A form is useful when the customer needs to describe the job or cannot call. Text can be a lower-friction alternative, but all three paths need ownership after submission.
Track the action without confusing it with the business result. The Google Ads lead-cost guide explains why a phone-number click, a connected call and a booked job should remain different records.
  • Use descriptive button text such as Call Ajay or Request a growth plan.
  • Keep tap targets large and avoid controls hidden under sticky navigation.
  • State what happens after the form and who will respond.
  • Test success, error and duplicate submission paths before launch.

06 / TEST

What should be tested after launch?

Start with a diagnosed friction point and change one meaningful variable. Compare qualified outcomes over a documented period instead of relying on button clicks alone.
Google recommends using Quality Score components as diagnostics rather than a target to optimise in isolation. Landing-page experience, ad relevance and expected click-through rate can point to areas for review, while business conversion data shows whether the change was commercially useful.
A useful test might compare a call-first and form-first action, rewrite an unclear fit statement, or move verified proof closer to the offer. Do not promise that a new layout will reach a standard conversion rate without knowing the traffic and lead definition.
  • Write the hypothesis and primary outcome before changing the page.
  • Keep campaign mix and tracking changes visible during the test window.
  • Review device, service and lead-quality differences before declaring a winner.
  • Preserve a record of the previous version and decision date.

LABELLED PAGE DEMO

A decision-first page order.

This is a content sequence, not a universal visual template. Move sections when the service decision requires a different order.

This is a page-planning demonstration, not a claim that one order converts best for every service. Test meaningful changes against qualified and booked outcomes from the actual traffic source.

What this guide relies on

Official sources establish the platform or Australian compliance facts. The operating method is my practical interpretation, not a promise of a particular result.

QUESTIONS

Questions worth answering before you start.

Is a landing page better than a full website for Google Ads?
Not automatically. A focused landing page is useful when one campaign has one clear service and action. A strong service page can be the better destination when customers need broader navigation, related services or deeper business context. Test the page that best answers the ad's promise.
How long should a service-business landing page be?
Long enough to resolve the decision, short enough to avoid repetition. A simple urgent service may need less explanation than a high-value project or professional engagement. There is no useful universal word count.
Should the phone number be at the top of the page?
If phone calls are a valid primary action, make the number or call button easy to find and use on mobile. Also state when calls are answered and provide another path when the team is unavailable.
How many calls to action should the page have?
Repeat the same small set of real actions where they are useful. A visible call button, quote form and text option can support different customers without turning every section into a different offer.
What conversion rate should my landing page achieve?
Do not accept a generic target without context. Traffic source, search intent, offer, device mix, service area, form friction and lead definition all change the rate. Measure qualified and booked outcomes as well as submissions.
